In 1997, the late Kathy Acker, legendary queer feminist writer, sat down with the Spice Girls on the cusp of stardom before their very first live television appearance on Saturday Night Live. Completely off-the-cuff and unrehearsed, the interview at times devolves into unintelligible chatter and it’s not quite clear who said what, but Acker rolled with the madness, struck by their working-class feminism and remarkable looks. Multiple times through the article, Acker can’t help but to interject, ”I like these girls.”
